Some pictures of the cars, the inner wing has dissolved on the drivers side, a bar has been welded in to stop the strut going AWOL !
Doesn t help parking it in a field for a few years
The sills have disappeared and so has the bottom of the a post, only 1x hinge holding the door on here !
The back corner has dissintegrated and most of the back panel as well.
A tidy site is a safe site, so we gave it a quick valet
This is a 1300 sport engine and 4 speed box with twin choke carb, i think same as the early nova sr 1.3 motor, will be putting it up for sale if any one is after one ?
This is the Evo im using that has been brush painted and rolled matt green by a previous owner, which is better for me as it has de valued it big time and also makes it a little easier to sleep, once we start cutting it up !
Im actually embarrassed driving it around, but despite it looking shxt, it drives beauitfully and sticks to the road like something on a blanket
As i said im starting this while the van is being painted, then back on with the van when its back, ill be doing this in between so we have things to do.
Will put some pictures up of the progress |

I had been thinking it for quite a bit now as well, before i started my van i wanted an evo for that.
The evos are the most expensive 4x4, so unless a crashed one could be found or in my case someone has painted it matt green and ruined it, i wasnt too keen spending £4k plus to cut it up,
Plus this has had some welding on the sill but im cutting them off so bonus again
Its also dinted on every panel and the back door doesnt shut 100% due to a nudge from behind.
The main thing is the running gear and engine which is still on the crap evo 4 ecu running standard power.... not for long though |

Just keep an eye out for the dreaded evo4 crank walk.
Are you keeping the ayc system? _________________

There are loads of threads on this, with some tuners commenting on the amount of IV engines they have changed due to this.
Provided you check for endfloat on the crank and catch it in time, you can replace the thrust bearing. Most people never do this and the first thing they know about it, is the car cutting out, or the clutch sticking down.
I will be keeping the AYC (YAW) system on yes, (whats that i hear you say)

Tbh I think a lot of the problem is people putting uprated clutches on with heavy springs, which means your forcing the crank across each time you press it.
The ayc is great when it works, I had an evo5 for a while, but the pump gave up and the car became the king of understeer lol
Shouldn't be too hard to graft in as I think it just uses wheel speed sensors and a steering wheel position sensor which I'm guessing you'll be swapping over anyway. _________________

Yes will be swapping everything over, so technically all the same minus a few electrics ie windows, central locking etc... |

Did a bit more with the astra today, its definitely bollxcksed
The whole front end moves up and down due to the daylight through the inner wing
Once we undid the bottom arm the strut fell out along with where it was bolted
This arch is solid so shouldnt have to cut it all out, the sill and rear corner should sort that arch.
We will just be doing the odd bit but will put some pics up. |

It is the best thing to do in my opinion as
A. its saving a mk1 thats never going on the road, from the scrap yard.
B. its turning it into an awesome machine, with modern technology.
C. I dont feel guilty cutting up a rot box
Im bringing it back to life, but better than ever ! |

Im only restoring the outer panels as the mitsubishi floor will be going underneath the mk1, the inner wings get removed.
Need to sort ...
A POSTS.
SILLS.
BACK ARCHES.
BACK CORNERS.
BACK VALANCE.
REAR PANEL WITH BOOT CATCH
I have a donor car for the A posts, the rest i can get online. :- |
