My car has got a knock on the front suspension and I'm suspecting it to be strut top bearings. Can these cause it to knock? My local motor factors cant get old of them anymore, does anyone know where I can get them? Are all mk1 tops the same or do big block models have different ones? Or do mk2 or mk3 ones fit? I want straight replacements and don't want to be drilling more holes in the strut mount. I had forgotten how annoying old cars can be when they have loads of little problems _________________ There's no such thing as a stupid question... Just stupid people! |

MK1 ones are specific to our car. All models are the same.
If anyone could find some they would make a killing as we can't find any.
You can't fit them from another car but there was some talk that Nova ones might fit? _________________

Most people beg/steal and borrow to amke a good set. You could fit others but you'll ahve to drill the strut tops to let them fit. _________________

As Mark has said very much doubt they are MK1 ones. I had the last 7 in the country about 2-3 years ago.
But its got to be worth a try as there are alot of people that would rip your arms of for a new set of top mounts _________________

what is it that isnt available guys?? as far as im concerned the actual mount is a cast item and its the bearing inside that is likely to go isnt it?? surely we could find someone to press new bearings in or am i completely out of the ball park? _________________ www.aquariushi.co.uk

nova ones fit (slight elongation of mount holes by 2.5mm) but the issue is that the bearing is seperate on the nova/corsa c, this is held in the spring cup not the top mount. Mk1 sprins are wider diameter than nova/corsa c, so you cant use the spring cups what you have to do is cut the bit off that holds the bearing in the nova one and weld it to th mk1 spring cup and like magic you can use nova /corsa/tigra top mount and bearings with your mk 1 astra uprights and springs _________________ VBOA Secretary |

the bearings can be changed just an open ball, however the top mount consits of two part bonded together with rubber. the outer that bolts to the chassis and the inner that holds the bearing and fastens to the shock absorber top.
what usually happens is the rubber deteriorates and becomes detatched from the metal parts thus excesssive play and possible suspension failure/collapse,
what we need is someone who can re make the old knackered ones we all have by pouring new rubber into then lol, but i guess it will cost a mortagage or hell will freeze over first _________________ VBOA Secretary |

have you done this mate?
i tried with corsa b mounts and got as far as fiting them then realised the threaded piece on the strut was about 20-30mm too short and couldnt be bothered to try to get a machine shop to sort it.
then i found 2 good ones i thought id lost in a asda carrier bag on my works van haha. |
