I have noticed that the rear lights are not well designed !
Many times, if not always i notice some high resistance on the board where the bulbes sit. The high resistance makes the current travel a .. funny way !

So , what i have done ? With a multimeter on OHM scale and bulbes on i have checked-measured the resistance between bulb and board connecton. ALL MUST BE zero . Not a single OHM . If you find some resistance make a new path with a wire and solder iron.

To be honest i made new earth wires for each rear light and the change in brightness is impressive !

If you know to use a multimeter , and have a haynes manual you can trace any electrical fault within minutes. This car is very simple ....
