I’ve been having a read of this thread on MIG:

http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=66678

...and went to a local Vaux dealer today to buy a replacement bush for my GTE’s gearstick. Unfortunately the parts guy came back and said it’s a discontinued part nowadays. I was a bit surprised, but fair enough.

Anyone know where I can get one, or whether a still-available one from another model will do the job?

Cheers!
Ben

That would be excellent big grin

No part number though unfortunately.

EDIT: I post the same thing on Mig and someone suggested that the Mk2 GTE part might be the same. I guess that's pretty likely especially for the very early 1.8 Mk2 GTEs...

Your mate might be on about a bush in the gear linkage (between stick and box) itself, rather than this...not sure though. As far as I know, the part I’m after will just improve the feel of the change in that it won’t be like stirring paint. I can move my gearstick a couple of inches in any direction whilst in gear – that’s what I’m trying to fix.

I now have the part number (I think) smile

90223682 - 'Bush, damper, gearshift' - 16S, 18E, 18SE applications.

Are the part numbers likely to be the same for Opel in Europe, for instance to enable me to contact someone like Opel Classics who might have one lying around?

Cheers for that.

I'll report back if I ever get this sorted and if it makes a blind bit of difference!

Now off to Babelfish... cool
