alright fellas,im in the middle of doing a reshell, but want to know the LEGAL way of registering.

basically my cars shell is fubarred to the max with rot, so ive bought a very mint shell on a Y plate where as mine is an A plate.
the original shell has a private plate which i want to keep ,but the original cars last lot of tax and mot ran out in june 06 Crying or Very sad

the new shell needs paint but im undecided as to which colour to go for

what i want to know,is what is the legal way of doing things??? i dont want the car to be Q-plated but everything bar the shell and engine are going to be off the original car etc,and new for old parts as and where reqd

ive been told i can do a change of chassis no on the logbook to coincide with the old cars registration, but im not 100% sure, and dont wanna get screwed in the end :wall: :wall:

any help will be muchly appreciated

cheers
stu :top:

Need to get in touch with DVLA and fill in a form.... laughing

They do it on a points format or they use to, certain points for certain items of the original vehicle and you need to get X amount of points for it to. Some of the inspectors can be bastards and ask for detailed proof of some things.... mad ...its a pain the ass process when the bastards about.

the good shell was it the same model as the old car?

If it is then no problem just change the engine number on the logbook and send away.

if not then you need to put the car through an SVA check which is a nightmare, you must be able to prove that you use the engine gearbox etc from the original car and they might let you keep the reg number.

unfortunatley, the shell requires a bit of welding in the exact same location as the chassis no by the drivers seat being evil what a shame laughing laughing laughing

and as for the slam panel, the id tags have to be taken off due to a bent panel,so off go the rivets and onto the new(original)~ slam panel laughing big grin

the plate will live on big grin

It sounds like you have got a plan now and it sounds like the right one. My GTE has had to have a plate welded by the chasis number and i lost the last 2 digits which have now had to be re-stamped (with photographic evidence of what was done). This is a problem area on the mk1 anyway because of where the original studs (for the fuel pipes) are welded to the floorpan. So it should not be a surprise for a mk1 to show that a repair has been done in this area.......................... big grin
