hi ross
i live in swansea,i have a mk1 gte black mint and i mean mint sadly
not 4 sale.be careful what you buy as i`ve found out!!!! 2 years on
and £2000 lighter+£1100 for car ,its finished.if you go and look at
one take a panel beater with you not a machanic,as most astras
are machanicily sound.
all the best

Agreed, the main downfall of the Mk1 Astra is bodywork, but don't overlook the general fact that if someone doesn't keep up to the mechanics of the vehicle there is a good chance that the body work will be poor too. It is sometimes a very good indicator.
Remember, lift carpets, lift everything and take something that you can prod with (Screwdriver Mark...!! )
There are a few buying guides out there and I haven't seen an inaccurate one yet.

Yep, you'll need to get under any car, check out suspension mounting points, inner wings, the critical points, these are the things to kill an astra. The rest can usually be sorted without too much hassle

but i fully understand mate, insurance is the killer, now buy a gte project and dodge away at it while you build up your bonus and buy the time your finished you`ll have a minter ready for you and the road ,although i have driven one of those cvh 1.4s and for a 19year old it will just about bring a grin to your face, they can be peppy little things, enjoy
