He's just got to finish rebuilding the crossmember and then hopefully that's the only welding she needs

I haven't been this excited to start a project for a long time. I don't know if it's because it's a break from the norm (I normally play with air-cooled volkswagens) or if it's because I'm revisiting my youth (the first car I restored/modified/customised was a Mk1) but I love it.
Can't wait to get it back and get the engines swapped
Then fit interior, lower it, change the wheels..... |

I sort of know what you mean but its other way round for me at the mo as im in the middle of helping my boss strip a rusty 72 karmen ghia thats stood for 8 years. best bit was getting it running in only 30 mins after all that time
Keep up the good work with the astra its looking good! _________________ Quoted from Mowgli on the PNG:
get on the mk1 astra forum... they appear to be switched on people, apart from their insisting that you fit a let to every mk1.......

Cheers mate
Yeah, I've had two VWs that had both been stood for a long time, one was 11 years and the other was 20 years. Got them both started and running pretty good within half hour.
I love ghias, had one year before last, but swapped it for a VR6 Corrado

The guy doing the welding left her running for quite a while and reckons that the smoke dies right down. I might chuck a new battery on and run her down for an MOT, see what she fails on. |
