Hi guys, i've bought a non running mini quad and have found the ignition to be at fault (i think). So I replaced the ignition unit and still nothing. Still no spark to the plug. The previous unit made a spark which was so week you could hardly see it. When I inspected further the unit was damaged and the HT lead span round when it was meant to be fixed.

I believe its called a magneto ignition system. It works by a flywheel that has two magnets sunk into it and as they pass the ignition unit generate a magnetic field which the ignition unit turns into a spark. Its then sent the plug and normally you see a spark.

Its so simple but for the life of me I can't get the thing to fire.

I may of bought a new but duff ignition unit or the same for the spark plug but the old one doesnt work either.

Its like these in the pictures.

Thanks for any help!

hi mate does it have a kill switch? (red push button on handle bar) if this is going to earth you will have no spark normally wire from coil goes into switch and another wire goes from earth to switch and when press button joins coil wire to earth and kills engine so try disconnecting switch and see if starts . if does you will hav to touch coil wire to earth to kill engine

I've disconected everything tbh and in my mind i would have to touch the wire in the second picture to earth to make it stop but still no spark. The only thing I haven't tried is earthing the cable so i'll give that a go and see what happens.
